Join a Collaborative Behavioral Health Team in Alaska

A leading behavioral health facility in Midtown, Alaska is seeking an experienced Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join its multidisciplinary inpatient team as a Psychiatric Hospitalist NP.

The Nurse Practitioner will provide comprehensive medical management for psychiatric inpatients, including admissions, history and physical examinations, follow-up evaluations, diagnostic assessments, and discharge planning for patients ages 5 and older.

Position Responsibilities

Medical Admissions & History and Physicals (H&Ps)

Conduct comprehensive medical evaluations for newly admitted patients, including complete histories and physical examinations within 24 hours of admission.

Ongoing Medical Management

Provide follow-up medical assessments, monitor patient progress, address acute and chronic medical concerns, and coordinate appropriate treatment interventions.

Diagnostic Evaluation & Treatment Planning

Order, review, and interpret diagnostic tests and laboratory studies while making recommendations regarding medical treatment and management.

Discharge Planning

Assist with discharge evaluations, medication reconciliation, follow-up care recommendations, and coordination of ongoing medical services.

Integrated Team Collaboration

Work closely with psychiatrists, psychologists, therapists, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals to develop comprehensive treatment plans addressing both medical and behavioral health needs.

Patient & Family Education

Educate patients and families regarding medical diagnoses, medications, treatment plans, and lifestyle modifications that support long-term health and wellness.

Complex Medical Comorbidity Management

Co-manage patients with chronic and acute medical conditions alongside behavioral health providers to ensure optimal outcomes and continuity of care.

Qualifications

Required

  • Nurse Practitioner (NP) degree from an accredited program
  • Active Alaska NP license or eligibility for licensure
  • DEA registration (or ability to obtain)
  • Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills
  • Experience managing acute and chronic medical conditions

Preferred

  • Hospitalist, inpatient, emergency medicine, family practice, internal medicine, or behavioral health experience
  • Experience working in psychiatric or behavioral health settings
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team environment
